Agricultural Development Laboratory
Arriving at the right fertilizer that complements and assists crop growth, giving high yield and better economics is not an act of serendipity. Zuariās acclaimed fertilisers are the result of ardent path breaking work in agricultural science. Being the first to establish a high-tech Agricultural Development Laboratories, dedicated to the service of India Agriculture in 1974 at Bangalore, Zuari has made enormous strides in this field. The success of this laboratory led to another similar labs being established in Pune followed by one in Tirupati.
Zuari Laboratories experiment with using micronutrients for agriculture. Micronutrients play an important role in improving farm productivity. This is due to a number of factors including the availability of high yielding and hybrid varieties of crops, intensive cultivation methods, multiple cropping and reduction in the availability of manure. Zuari labs were one of the first to be equipped with Atomic Absorption Spectro Photometers in 1979. These instruments are used to determine the amount of micronutrients in the soil. These labs are also well equipped to carry out water and leaf petiole analysis. Till date, the labs have tested 1.17 million soil samples for NPK and about 1.64 lakh samples for micronutrients besides 6259 water and 5562 plant petiole/leaf samples.
